We have a long track record of working on listed buildings and understand the sensitivities around historic properties, and their related planning issues. Our tradesmen are skilled in the use of heritage techniques and traditional materials.

Contemporary Additions

We undertake work that not only restores the historic aspects of buildings, but we also undertake projects that marry contemporary design in a manner that is sympathetic to the historic structure of the property.

This project involved the demolition of a 1970s conservatory and the complete re-modelling of the surrounding landscape to build a contemporary glass structure at the rear of this Grade II listed property. The landscaping included the laying of new York stone pavers, as well as the installation of railings and new steps to access the various levels. The project won the Alan King Award in 2011.

Full House Restoration

We have undertaken the complete restoration of various listed houses from differing periods, working to restore the original features. Where replacement is necessary, we use the finest materials to create a seamless finish.

This Grade II listed property was structurally sound, but required complete modernization, both inside and out, whilst ensuring the preservation of original features.

We have experience in the conversion of listed properties from commercial properties back into housing and from housing into commercial properties. These projects offer a unique set of challenges, and we are very familiar with the planning, building control and listed building issues around these projects.

We worked to convert this Grade II listed property from a large family home into a new Bed and Breakfast business, providing ensuite bathrooms to all the letting rooms.

Lime Work

As we work regularly with listed buildings and historic monuments; an ability to work with lime is one of our staple services. We have skilled craftsmen who are experts in lime pointing, rendering and plastering.

We undertake masonry repairs of all kinds, often using lime products and mortars. These range from the replacement of odd stones damaged by weather or salts to major masonry repairs.

We were asked to re-roof the north porch of St Mary the Virgin Church in Richmond. This involved removing all the roofing slabs and replacing damaged stone with new slabs. These were laid on hydraulic lime mortar. We also dowelled and stitched sections to repair the kneeler stones and large ridge stones.

We also had to take up the concreted area around the porch and replace it with reclaimed yorkstone paving as well as carefully dismantling and resetting the steps down to the porch.

Joinery & Timberwork

Intrinsic to the fabric of listed properties is the joinery work, including floors, pannelling, shutters or doors. We offer services to either repair existing joinery work or supply new bespoke joinery to seamlessly match with the existing woodwork.

We overhauled the drawing room of this Georgian Grade II listed property. The work included taking up, re-laying, sanding and sealing the pitch pine floor. We also overhauled the three-part skirting boards, and stripped and made good the original Georgian panelling.
